A living example of strength, resilience, and business masteryChristiana Aguoru’s journey reflects extraordinary strength, discipline, and business excellence. At a time when modern tools such as calculators, computers, and the internet were not available, she successfully managed complex business operations using traditional methods, including the use of a ready reckoner for calculations and record-keeping.
Her work in the rice trade went far beyond buying and selling. She operated within a largely manual, non-mechanised environment and took full responsibility for the entire value chain, from farm to market, demonstrating rare entrepreneurial capability:
End-to-End Supply Chain Leadership
She sourced raw harvested rice directly from local farms, often dealing with smallholder farmers using traditional farming methods. She coordinated the movement of produce to local rice mills, supervised processing, and ensured proper bagging of finished rice. From there, she managed transportation logistics, organising movement from rural processing points to market locations, before overseeing final distribution and sales.

She handled pricing, cost calculations, inventory, and sales records manually, relying on discipline, memory, and the use of a ready reckoner, maintaining accuracy in a complex, multi-stage business.

All of this was done without automated systems or mechanised processes. Every stage required physical coordination, negotiation, supervision, and trust-based relationships across farmers, mill operators, transporters, and market traders.
